UN agencies and NGO partners recently released the 2019-2020 Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan, a comprehensive USD 5.5 billion plan designed to support the national efforts of five refugee hosting countries (Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq) to manage the impact of the Syria crisis.
In 2019, 3RP partners will implement an extensive response targeting more than nine million people across the five refugee hosting countries. In addition to providing support to the approximately 5.6 million registered Syrian refugees in the region, 3RP partners will also directly assist some 3.9 million impacted and vulnerable host community members. This assistance will help address protection challenges for refugees, increase access to both formal and non-formal education, enhance basic services and economic opportunities for affected populations and strengthen the capacity of national and local actors to respond to the Syria crisis.
The international community must continue to recognize the plight of Syrian refugees and provide the necessary support to refugee hosting countries in the region to enable them to pursue their own development trajectories.
Since its inception in 2015, over USD 12 billion has been channeled through the 3RP’s humanitarian and development partners. Total funding provided by donors to the 3RP in 2018 was at USD 2.9 billion (52 per cent of requirements) as of 30 September.
